DELTA GEMS

Picture
The Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS (Growing & Empowering Myself Successfully) Institute is a mentoring program for African-American girls in high school, sponsored by the Indianapolis Alumnae Chapter (“IAC”) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, (“Delta”).

Delta is a public service organization founded in 1913 by 22 black women dedicated to uplifting their community in the areas of educational development, economic development, and many other powerful ways. The Delta GEMS Institute is one of Delta’s flagship programs that has been in existence for well over 40 years.

The goals for the Delta GEMS Institute are: to instill the need to excel academically; to provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success; to assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures in high school and beyond; and to create compassionate, caring, community minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.

The Delta GEMS Institute is designed for young women:

Who are in grades 9-12
Who have potential, but need guidance, support and skills to achieve success
Who are interested in developing leadership skills
Who are actively pursuing college and/or career options
Who need encouragement and support in pursuit of higher learning.
The Delta GEMS Institute activities include participation in community service projects, cultural events, and attending educational workshops where we present topics such as choosing the most appropriate college, career choices, social and professional etiquette, self-esteem building, wellness, money management and of course having lots of fun.
