Seeing Black in REaD

Picture
Date:  Saturday, September 30
Time:  10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Location:  Global Village Welcome Center Museum - 4233 Lafayette Rd., Indianapolis, IN  46254
Cost:  This event is FREE and open to the public

The Indianapolis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host a Banned Book Awareness "Seeing Black in REaD" Literacy event.

This event highlights the partnership between Delta Sigma Theta Sorority chapters around the Midwest and the Black Caucus of American Library Association (BCALA) to remind everyone about the valuable resources and power available with a library card and reading.

The purpose of this event is to:
  1. Put books in the hands of minorities
  2. Increase the number of blacks with library cards
  3. Expose our community to reading resources

This event is one that can change our community. THIS is how we fight back! We won’t be silenced by banned books, hidden history, or rewritten stories. This event will boast a “Banned Book Read Aloud”, a reading specialist to improve your child’s reading level, banned book discussion, book give-aways, book club information, author read alouds and more.

Special Guests
  • Deputy Mayor Judith Thomas
  • Re-enactment actress Vickie Daniel who will portray Madame C.J. Walker

Let’s defy the notion that “If you don’t want a person of color to know something, put it in a book” by committing to attending this event, inviting others, & sharing this event with your networks. If you are an educator please consider giving your student’s extra credit for attending.
